1 John 1:8-2:2 - Freedom from sin

Scripture:

1 John 1:8-2:2
8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

1 John 2
1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;
2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.
NASU

Thoughts:

The Lord knows we have and will fail.  He knows we can't be perfect, otherwise we would not have needed His work upon the cross (verse 2:2).  We would not have needed Him to propitiate (to appease, or satisfy) our judgment, through His own sacrifice.

He is so good to purify us in response to our confession to Him (verse 1:9).  He doesn't hold our failures over us to shame or manipulate us, He washes us clean.  Hallelujah!

Prayer:

Thank You Jesus for being my Savior; my sin-bearer.  You have set me free!  May I walk in the freedom You offer, today.

Amen
