Acts 23:10-11 - Sovereignty

Scripture:

Acts 23:10-11
10 And as a great dissension was developing, the commander was afraid Paul would be torn to pieces by them and ordered the troops to go down and take him away from them by force, and bring him into the barracks.

11 But on the night immediately following, the Lord stood at his side and said, "Take courage; for as you have solemnly witnessed to My cause at Jerusalem, so you must witness at Rome also."

Thoughts:

I think we see God's sovereignty in this passage.

After another turbulent day in court, Jesus comes to meet Paul in a post-ascension visit.  As He does, He does not even comment on the crazy things happening or that will happen to Paul, but simply tells him what He has for him in future ministry.

You wonder if Paul would have liked some more detailed information.  From a human perspective, we want to hear the Lord address our circumstances.  We want to hear how things are going to work out and what the details will be.  But the Lord knows how He is going to handle all of these issues, and just wants us to keep our eyes on Him and what He has directed us to do.  He wants us to maintain our faith in Him, even though we don't know what's around the next corner for us.

Prayer:

Forgive me Lord, for failing to have confidence in You when times are tough.  Too easily I let worries overwhelm me and people intimidate me.

You have shown Yourself able to carry me through all my troubles.  Afterall, I'm here now!  Help me to have more faith the next time challenges come my way.

Amen
