Mark 16:20 - The mark of ministry

Scripture:

Mark 16:20
20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them, and confirmed the word by the signs that followed.
NASU

Thoughts:

I believe the mark of true ministry is here in this verse.  That is, the Lord confirming it through His working.  I don't believe this working will necessarily be spectacular (healings, etc.), but that it will be clear that He is orchestrating the circumstances and working in the hearts of people.

Yet we can find it hard to let go of those ministries in which we do not see God working.  We are most comfortable with the familiar, even if there is no life in it, anymore.  But ministry should be a response to the leading of the Holy Spirit, not our attempt to induce Him to do what we think is a good idea or what we have always done.

Prayer:

Lord, we have so little time in this life, grant me the wisdom not to waste it on my own "good ideas."  Help me to hear Your voice and respond to You in all I do, particularly my ministry involvement.

Amen
