Amos 2:6-7 - Light in the darkness

Scripture:

Amos 2:6-7
6 Thus says the Lord,
"For three transgressions of Israel and for four
I will not revoke its punishment,
Because they sell the righteous for money
And the needy for a pair of sandals.
7 "These who pant after the very dust of the earth on the head of the helpless
Also turn aside the way of the humble;
And a man and his father resort to the same girl
In order to profane My holy name.
NASU

Thoughts:

The Lord lists a number of sins of Israel at that time, specifically:

  1. Taking advantage of the weak (verses 6-7)
  2. Greed (verse 7a)
  3. Immorality (verse 7c)

Reflecting on these broad categories of sin, they are very familiar to us.  These are still around, with many today as in that day, not seeing them as sin, but as something to aspire to.  But clearly, we see God's opinion in the matter (verse 6a)

What a dark time we live in, but God's light shines brightest where there is no light.  May it shine brightly in us as we reflect God's heart, not the sinful tide around us.

Prayer:

Keep me walking in Your ways, Lord.  Let me be a person after Your own heart, untainted by the evil that surrounds all of us in this world.

Use me to reach some who do not know You, and to strengthen those faltering in their faith.

Amen
