Luke 6:21 - Our future
Scripture:
Luke 6:21
21 "Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh."

Thoughts:
What a wonderful promise the Lord made to His disciples then, and to all who follow Him, today. As Paul would later write:
2 Corinthians 4:17-1817 For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison,18 while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
NASU
Everyone in this life experiences suffering. We may face different degrees of difficulty, but no one is immune from the consequences of the curse upon creation. The Bible tells us that not only was man impacted by his choice to sin, but the very creation itself:
Genesis 3:1717 Then to Adam He said, "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, "You shall not eat from it';
Cursed is the ground because of you;
In toil you will eat of it
All the days of your life.
NASU
But how wonderful to know, that this will all end someday for the believer! That our weeping will turn to laughter. That we will be satisfied.
This hunger we feel is not just in a physical sense, but Matthew's account adds the additional detail "those who hunger and thirst for righteousness" (Matthew 5:6). As believers, this is what we truly hunger for as we tire of living in a world that is fallen, and battling with our own nature that is also fallen. How wonderful it will be when this inner battle is over and we are satisfied, being immersed in the righteousness of God, never again to experience anything less. Revelation gives us a taste of our final home:
Revelation 21:1-5
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them,4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away."5 And He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." And He said, "Write, for these words are faithful and true."
NASU
Echoing 2 Corinthians, the beauty of our future with Him, far outweighs the ugliness we endure now. And God is so good, He walks with us now, even in the midst of our hardest trial.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to not lose sight of where You're taking me in the midst of my troubles. My troubles are so small compared to those of others in the world, it hardly seems right to even call them that.
Nevertheless, help me to see my days in the light of eternity. To rejoice that one day my hunger for Your righteousness will be completely filled.
Amen
