Luke 22:1-6 - Playing Christian

Scripture:

Luke 22:1-6
1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was approaching.
2 The chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people.

3 And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, belonging to the number of the twelve.
4 And he went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers how he might betray Him to them.
5 They were glad and agreed to give him money.
6 So he consented, and began seeking a good opportunity to betray Him to them apart from the crowd.

Thoughts:

There is no spiritual middle ground.  Ever since the time of Christ, there have been people who have wanted to "play it cool" with Jesus, but not allow Him to change their lives.  People that go to church or listen to Bible teaching in one way or another, but don't allow it to sink in.  They never go from a fascination with Christ to a life-changing submission to Him.

Judas could have blended right in with this crowd.  Though he walked physically with Christ, he never walked with Him, spiritually.  He never gave his life to the Lord, and in fact we are told he used to steal money from the funds of the ministry (John 12:6).

But soon his false front is going to be exposed to all.  Satan has now taken advantage of this fraud for his own purposes (verse 3).  Judas has chosen to betray Christ (verse 4).

Prayer:

Lord, I pray for any today who find themselves "playing Christian."  They, like Judas, are in a vulnerable place.  They believe they can go on this way forever, but Judas reminds us of the impossibility of that lie.  Let them come to know You, today.  Use me in anyway that I can to help bring this about.

And I thank You, that though I was once acting the part, I have given my life to You.  By Your grace, my relationship with You is no mere fascination, but a deep and abiding relationship between You, my Creator, and me.  Thank You!  I don't deserve this gift.

Amen
