Luke 22:7-13 - His foreknowledge
Scripture:
Luke 22:7-13
7 Then came the first day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.
8 And Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it."
9 They said to Him, "Where do You want us to prepare it?"
10 And He said to them, "When you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house that he enters.
11 "And you shall say to the owner of the house, 'The Teacher says to you, "Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?"'
12 "And he will show you a large, furnished upper room; prepare it there."
13 And they left and found everything just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.

Thoughts:
I believe we get a taste of the Lord's foreknowledge in this event.
Jesus predicts Peter and John will meet a man carrying a pitcher of water (verse 10). Apparently he would be the only such man they would see, because they would then know to follow him. This is not hard to fathom as carrying water in a pitcher to the home was a responsibility ascribed to women in Jerusalem in the 1st century -- it would be unique indeed to find a man doing so!
They would follow the man to the house that he would enter. The house would have a guest room (verse 11) that would be a large, finished, upper room (verse 12). And the owner would oblige the disciples by allowing the use of the room.
Clearly, the Lord could see these events as if they had already happened to describe them in such vivid detail. You can catch a sense of the awe as all of these events took place (verse 13a). His ability to do this is a mystery to us, as we find ourselves stuck in time as humans. However God, who created time, is not bound by it. The scriptures tell us that He can see past, present, and future equally, as if they all had already happened. This is bewildering to us!
Isaiah 46:9-10
9 For I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is no one like Me,
10 Declaring the end from the beginning,
And from ancient times things which have not been done

As I think of this truth about God, it reminds me of how much we need to seek His guidance in our daily lives. How many decisions that we make, would we make differently if we knew for certain the future outcome? We wrestle with probability and what we hope is the right choice, because we don't know for sure in many cases which choice will ultimately work out the best, but God does know. And He invites us to draw Him into every decision we make, no matter how big or small. As one of my mentors used to say, "He will lead those, who are willing to be led."
Prayer:
Lord, I'm so glad that You know the future. Though many surprises come my way, nothing has ever surprised You.
Please guide me in my thoughts and the decisions I make today. I put my faith in You to lead me in what is right; what is according to Your will.
Amen
