Luke 24:44-48 - Being patient

Scripture:

Luke 24:44-48
44 Now He said to them, " These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled."
45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,
46 and He said to them, " Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day,
47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
48 "You are witnesses of these things.
NASU

Thoughts:

Jesus has been crucified and has resurrected before now reuniting with His disciples.

His patience is incredible!  Jesus is explaining to the disciples again, how He needed to die for the sins of the world.  Luke records a number of instances before the crucifixion that He had done likewise, for example:

Luke 9:22
"The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised up on the third day."
NASU

This time He opens their minds to see it in the Old Testament (verse 45).  What an awesome Bible study that must have been!

Jesus demonstrates the patience we so often struggle to have with others.  It's difficult to be patient with someone when they don't seem to understand what you are trying to convey to them.  Whether it's the person that continues to ask the same question over and over, or the one who continues to make the same mistake repeatedly, we find it hard to be patient at that point.  But Jesus shows us the loving way to handle those circumstances:  patience.

Prayer:

Lord, I'm so glad You are patient with me.  I know I too am slow to understand the things that You are teaching me.  I'm so glad that You don't give up on me, but continue to patiently remind me of the things that You have shown me before.

Help me to learn this patience as well, and to share it with others.  May my heart be filled with love for others, expressed in patience.

Amen
