Ecclesiastes 10:20 - Harmed by our words
Scripture:
Ecclesiastes 10:20
20 Furthermore, in your bedchamber do not curse a king, and in your
sleeping rooms do not curse a rich man, for a bird of the heavens will
carry the sound and the winged creature will make the matter known.

Thoughts:
"Loose lips sink ships" was a phrase used by the American military
during
World War II. It was a slogan that referred to how an idle word from a
military service man, could lead to the enemy discovering enough of
their plans to counter it, resulting in for instance, a
sunken ship.
In the same way, our lips can sink our own ship. Who has not been
stung by the foolishness of their own words? But sometimes in our
pride, we feel as though our words can't harm us. Thinking that others
won't find out and it won't in some way come back on us. But no one
can control the course that words will take once they leave our lips or
fingertips through modern social media. Emails can be forwarded,
spoken words can be repeated, and as Solomon writes, they can come back
to the very person we should not have spoken of. As this verse exhorts
us, we are wise to leave these words unsaid.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to be careful with my words. Further, keep me from
sinful
thoughts so that I need not fear what I might say!
Amen
