Ecclesiastes 3:4 - Seasons of life
Scripture:
Ecclesiastes 3:4
4 A time to weep and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn and a time to dance.
NASU
Thoughts:
These are certainly from the most famous lines written by Solomon,
beginning with the declaration:
Ecclesiastes 3:1
1 There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for
every event under heaven —
NASU
His words here concur with the rest of scripture and the experience of
all of mankind: there are both good and bad times in our lives.
Though joy is a choice we make in the circumstances of our lives, we
will not always feel like laughing and dancing. Some degree of this is
normal. Therefore, we should not be surprised when, even as believers,
we face difficult times, when we find ourselves mournful over the
events in our life rather than rejoicing.
Yet, even in those times we have hope. We know that our times of
mourning will one day forever end. For the believer, there is a joy
that awaits us that cannot be compared to all the cumulative sorrows of
this world.
Prayer:
Lord, I am so glad for countless times of rejoicing. I'm also thankful
that You have always brought me through the times of mourning. Thank
You for the rejoicing that is yet before me, help me to not lose sight
of that in the rough and tumble of life.
Amen
