Ecclesiastes 9:10 - Purposeful living
Scripture:
Ecclesiastes 9:10
10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there
is no activity or planning or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol where you
are going.
NASU
Thoughts:
This reminds me of the words of Jesus, an admonition to be active in
ministry:
John 9:4
4 "We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day;
night is coming when no one can work."
NASU
This life is very short, we are all at some point on our way to the
grave (Sheol). When we are young or somewhere in the middle, time
seems like an infinite resource. But as Solomon reminds us, it is a
resource that we have in limited supply. And life is good at stealing
away this time. It is very easy to fill our days with
things that only matter in the here and now, and have no significance
after
this life is over. We fail to realize that the clock is not ticking
forward,
but is in fact winding down.
If this were your last year, your last day, or even your last hour,
would you be content
with what it contained? Let us remember that one day we will stand
before the Lord, not to be judged for sin for those who have been
saved, but to receive reward for those things we did under His leading
in
the time He allotted to us:
1 Corinthians 3:8
8 Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive
his own reward according to his own labor.
NASU
Let us live in such a way that on that day, we will not be ashamed.
Let us strive to not simply be ones who are saved but have no
spiritual fruit to show for our lives.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, help me to take full advantage of the time I have.
Ministering to others, growing closer to You. Help me to not be waft
to sleep and miss the purpose You have for me here and now.
Amen
