Ecclesiastes 1:10 - Emptiness of materialism
Scripture:
Ecclesiastes 1:10
10 Is there anything of which one might say,
"See this, it is new"?
Already it has existed for ages
Which were before us.
NASU
Thoughts:
This verse reminds me of our modern, industrialized culture. We are
obsessed with having the "latest and greatest" of everything. Solomon
points to the futility of these pursuits. So many chase them in search
of contentment, but it cannot be found there.
Before I was saved, I lived like this: materialistic. Thinking the
next "thing" I acquired was going to make life wonderful. But things
can't do this. We weren't designed to find lasting contentment in the
things of this world. Only knowing the Lord can bring fulfillment to
our lives. We were made to know Him.
Prayer:
Thank You Jesus for saving me from the emptiness of this world that I
was trapped in. You have given me life, and that life is abundant!
I pray for those still walking in the emptiness. May they come to know
You. May I be useful towards this end.
Amen
