Ecclesiastes 5:7 - Danger in dreaming
Scripture:
Ecclesiastes 5:7
7 For in many dreams and in many words there is emptiness. Rather, fear
God.
NASU
Thoughts:
This reminds me of the oft-quoted Proverb:
Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.
NASU
Rather than striving and racking our minds to understand, our greatest
need is for simple faith in God.
Dreaming does often bring emptiness. We can imagine great things,
can't we? But then, what happens when those things don't come to
pass? It brings a profound emptiness and even confusion.
Rather than committing ourselves to our own dreams, we need to commit
ourselves to God's will for our lives. We need to simply walk in the
fear (awe) of Him, and trust Him with the future. I believe it's OK to
wonder
about what His will is and to be excited about how we sense God
leading, but we
must guard our hearts in this. We must maintain an attitude of
submission and worship, that we not find ourselves carried away by our
imaginations or even in despair, rather than walking in God's will.
Prayer:
Lord, I have known the disappointment of unfulfilled dreams. Grant me
contentment in Your will for me, I know I cannot
manufacture it, myself. Help me to walk in faith and obedience whether
the plans I would like, come to pass or not. Where You lead me, I
will follow.
Amen
