Mark 1:29-31 - Earnest prayer
Scripture:
Mark 1:29-31
29 And immediately after they came out of the synagogue, they came into
the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
30 Now Simon's mother-in-law was lying sick with a fever; and
immediately they spoke to Jesus about her.
31 And He came to her and raised her up, taking her by the hand, and
the fever left her, and she waited on them.

Thoughts:
Mark's gospel is so full of action, it's easy to go right past little
nuggets like this one concerning the healing of Simon's (Peter)
mother-in-law.
First, of course it is wonderful to see that Jesus completely heals her
(verse 31). What an amazing God that gets involved in our lives! Who
cares for each one of us!
But I'm even more struck by the speed at which Jesus is told of her
ailment (verse 30). You get the sense that nothing else was said or
done upon entering the house before this. This is the Son of God
entering the home, and yet there is an eagerness and earnestness of
bringing their
need to Him, instead of a shyness or wariness.
So why are we so slow to bring our needs before God? The Bible speaks
of praying for our needs often, with boldness, and in belief. How
different our attitudes if not our lives might be, if we heeded these
exhortations.
Prayer:
Lord, prayerlessness brings to light wrong thinking on my part. As I
recognize Your desire, willingness, and ability to work in my life --
like a good father -- I should naturally want to bring things to You.
Grow me!
Amen
