Mark 9:43 - Spiritual surgery
Scripture:
Mark 9:43
43 "If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for
you to enter life crippled, than, having your two hands, to go into
hell, into the unquenchable fire
NASU
Thoughts:
Jesus gives us a command regarding areas of sin in our life: cut it
off. He is not suggesting self-mutilation, but that the area of sin be
removed, using the hand, metaphorically. Jesus' warning implies those
comfortable to live in sin, have reason to doubt whether they are in
Christ at all, and bound not for heaven, but hell.
Forsaking sin can be hard sometimes for us. Satan is no fool, he does
not
tempt us with things that we do not find in some way desirable.
Is there something that is damaging your walk with God? An obvious
area of sin? A relationship that is pulling you away from Him? A
hobby that is no longer a diversion, but is crowding out your God-given
responsibilities? Worry? By His power, let it go! Heed the words of
the Lord, and be free.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to recognize anything that I need to discard from my
life, and to follow through. I want to walk in the light with You.
Amen
