Mark 14:10-11 - Selling out the Lord
Scripture:
Mark 14:10-11
10 Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went off to the
chief priests in order to betray Him to them.
11 They were glad when they heard this, and promised to give him money.
And he began seeking how to betray Him at an opportune time.
NASU
Thoughts:
The Apostle John tells us of the greed of Judas:
John 12:4-7
4 But Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, who was intending to betray
Him, said, 5 "Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii
and given to poor people?" 6 Now he said this, not because he was
concerned about the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he had the
money box, he used to pilfer what was put into it. 7
NASU
Here we see his greed take full root, seemingly in response to the
extravagant
annointing of Jesus with expensive perfume (Mark
14:3-9).
Judas was willing to sell out Jesus for money, as do many. For others
it's acceptance of peers, popularity, pleasure, success, or power.
Whatever the reason, it's insane! To exchange a relationship with your
Creator that will last for eternity for anything in this life, destined
to end, is crazy.
Now Judas, though he was in close physical proximity to Jesus, does not
appear to have ever become a Christian. What is even more tragic, are
those clearly in relationship with Jesus, that then sell Him out.
Walking with Christ invites the onslaught of our spiritual enemy,
Satan. It can be extremely tough along the way, but let us never lose
our love of Him, the reason we started this walk. Let us keep our eyes
on Him, and not have any price tag upon us that Satan can pay to steal
our hearts away from Jesus.
Prayer:
Lord, may I remain true to You, no matter the cost. Keep me from
getting caught in the current of sin that's all around us. Let me walk
Your narrow path by Your enabling, all of my days.
Amen
