Mark 13:33-37 - Stay awake!
Scripture:
Mark 13:33-37
33 "Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the
appointed time will come.
34 "It is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and
putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also
commanded the doorkeeper to stay on the alert.
35 "Therefore, be on the alert — for you do not know when the master of
the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the
rooster crows, or in the morning —
36 in case he should come suddenly and find you asleep.
37 "What I say to you I say to all, 'Be on the alert!'"

Thoughts:
There's an admonition here to not be found "asleep." It makes me think
of our tendency to mark days as to their importance. Holidays,
birthdays, anniversaries and the like are all significant to us. Then
there are the days we feel are more spiritually significant. Sundays,
any day in which we serve in a ministry or on a mission trip,
Thanksgiving, and Christmas, for example.
This isn't wrong per se, but I think the point here is that every day
is significant. The Lord could return on any day, clearly that will
make it significant!
As a result, you and I need to be focused on Him each day. No day is
insignificant. When He returns, let us be found by Him free from the
entanglements of this life, involved in the work He has for us, and
eager to see His return!
Prayer:
Jesus, the daily grind can grind me into complacency and apathy. Help
me to keep my zeal for You and Your work, and not be lulled to sleep.
This is a significant day because I am with You!
Amen
