Genesis 14:11-12 - Standing out from the world
Scripture:
Genesis 14:11-12
11 Then they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all
their food supply, and departed.
12 They also took Lot, Abram's nephew, and his possessions and
departed, for he was living in Sodom.

Thoughts:
Lot had moved into Sodom and now experiences the same fate as its
residents. Christians often think they should be spared the
troubles of life. The Lord does not promise us this, however.
Instead, He promises that He will be with us and that He will use
the difficulty in some way for our good:
Romans 8:28
28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for
good to those who love God, to those who are called according to
His purpose.
NASU
But I think there is something more to this than simply Lot's
place of residence. He has effectively joined himself with this
evil people. We don't know why this man of such great wealth
moved into the city. Perhaps to have a house and not a tent?
Maybe for the variety and activity that a city can offer, as
opposed to living out in the fields? Whatever the reason, Lot
joined this wicked people and now was suffering as one of them.
Prayer:
Keep me Jesus from uniting with the ungodly. I want to love them,
but not be like them.
Unlike Lot, I don't have a choice of living in isolation from the
ungodly in a tent somewhere, so help me not to be influenced by
them. Lost friends and acquaintances need to see You in my life
more than they need my camaraderie. Help me to be a light to them
and in every place that I go. I need Your help for this!
Amen
