Genesis 16:1-2a - Cynicism
Genesis 16:1-2a
1 Now Sarai, Abram's wife had borne him no children, and she had
an Egyptian maid whose name was Hagar.
2 So Sarai said to Abram, "Now behold, the Lord has prevented me
from bearing children."

Thoughts:
In the shadow of Abram's great statement of faith (Genesis
15:3-8), comes Sarai's cynical statement. Lest we think
too little of Sarai, we must remind ourselves her sentiment is
likely not foreign to us, as well. There is a strong temptation
to blame God when events in our lives are not as we wish them to
be.
But as in Sarai's case, rather than blaming, we need to begin
trusting. He loves us and does know what's best for us. And
also like Sarai, we don't know when those circumstances may
reverse, and then we will see what time we have wasted in our
unbelief and cynicism.
Prayer:
Oh Lord, help me to trust You when life isn't going my way. You
have given me every reason to trust You.
Psalm 42:11
11 Why are you in despair, O my soul?
And why have you become disturbed within me?
Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him,
The help of my countenance and my God.

Amen
