Genesis 15:15-16 - End of evil
Scripture:
Genesis 15:15-16
15 "As for you (Abram), you shall go to your fathers in peace;
you will be buried at a good old age.
16 "Then in the fourth generation they will return here, for
the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete."
NASU
Thoughts:
Why does evil seem to persist unchecked? Here is an answer.
God is giving the wicked as many opportunities as possible to
repent:
2 Peter 3:9
9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count
slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to
perish but for all to come to repentance.
NASU
But there does come a time when there is no turning back; when
God's judgment will come. Hundreds of years after the life of
Abram, his descendants were sent as an instrument of God's
righteous judgment against the Amorites:
Deuteronomy 20:17-18
17 "But you shall utterly destroy them, the Hittite and the
Amorite, the Canaanite and the Perizzite, the Hivite and the
Jebusite, as the Lord your God has commanded you, 18 so that
they may not teach you to do according to all their
detestable things which they have done for their gods, so
that you would sin against the Lord your God.
NASU
God is not pleased with the evil in our world, but He will
bring an end to it. And like the Amorites, all those
rejecting Christ and engaging in evil, will one day face His
judgment:
Acts 17:30-31
30 "Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God
is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should
repent, 31 because He has fixed a day in which He will judge
the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has
appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him
from the dead."
NASU
Prayer:
Lord, I thank You that You are patient with sinners.
Otherwise, I would not be here now.
But I am also thankful that You are righteous. You will judge
every sin. I thank You mine were already judged upon Christ,
so that I could be saved. I pray more will accept His payment
for them, even those so closely identified with evil, today.
Amen
