Genesis 25:29-34 - Foolishness of the flesh
Scripture:
Genesis 25:29-34
29 When Jacob had cooked stew, Esau came in from the field and
he was famished;
30 and Esau said to Jacob, "Please let me have a swallow of
that red stuff there, for I am famished." Therefore his name
was called Edom.
31 But Jacob said, "First sell me your birthright."
32 Esau said, "Behold, I am about to die; so of what use then
is the birthright to me?"
33 And Jacob said, "First swear to me"; so he swore to him,
and sold his birthright to Jacob.
34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew; and he ate and
drank, and rose and went on his way. Thus Esau despised his
birthright.

Thoughts:
Esau's choice seems unimaginable, to give up the prestige of
his birthright and larger future inheritance for a meal, it's
preposterous! Yet, so often we make short term decisions that
are at odds with our long term goals and values, even.
Esau was a man controlled by the flesh, and does not the flesh
make fools of us all? Our flesh leads us to sin, and Is any
sin truly logical? Is it not always the most wise choice to
obey the ways of God, to Whom we must give an account?
Let us learn from Esau. If You have trusted in Christ, then
live in agreement with the Spirit, and not with the flesh.
Don't throw away that which endures for that which is
shameful.
Prayer:
Lord, the flesh knocks at my door as it did Esau. Help me to
walk in the Spirit, that I not fulfill fleshly desires. I
want to be wise with Your wisdom, and not a fool. Help me
this day.
Amen
