Genesis 44:33-45:4 - Reconciliation
Scripture:
Genesis 44:33-45:4
44:33 "Now, therefore, please let your servant remain
instead of the lad a slave to my lord, and let the lad
go up with his brothers. 34 "For how shall I go up to my
father if the lad is not with me — for fear that I see
the evil that would overtake my father?"
45:1 Then Joseph could not control himself before all
those who stood by him, and he cried, "Have everyone go
out from me." So there was no man with him when Joseph
made himself known to his brothers. 2 He wept so loudly
that the Egyptians heard it, and the household of
Pharaoh heard of it. 3 Then Joseph said to his
brothers, " I am Joseph! Is my father still alive?" But
his brothers could not answer him, for they were
dismayed at his presence.
4 Then Joseph said to his brothers, "Please come closer
to me." And they came closer. And he said, "I am your
brother Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt.

Thoughts:
After Judah's impassioned plea for Benjamin (verse
44:33) and a reference to the health of Jacob (verse
44:44, 45:3a), Joseph can no longer hide himself from
his brothers. We don't know what finally pushed him
over the edge, but it was too much for him to conceal
his feelings any longer.
This is such a moving scene. How wonderful to see
Joseph at last restored to his family! Clearly
reconciliation is pleasing to our Lord.
Psalm 133:1
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brothers to dwell together in unity!
NASU
Let us each consider if there are any to which God
would see us be reconciled. If so, let's be the one to
take that next step toward reconciliation.
Prayer:
Lord, give me the courage to be the reconciler like
Joseph. Rather than holding a grudge, looking to be a
blessing. Loving even those who have done wrong to me
that I might be like You, the One who loved me when I
was Your enemy. Guide me in Your wisdom in this.
Amen
